Farm, or NADA farm, Some observations!

The power saga begins!

I didn't have a picture for the last page, I moved "the big old barn doors" from the back of the Garage, to put the floor in it. I found them to be heavy but salvagable. Fortunately I didn't need the full height, as some of the bottom of the doors was rotted off. But they were already here, and could be fixed cheap, and for now, that's the password, cheap!

The doors are hung and work. So now I can get about fixing a "few things" and rewiring the buildings. This will be a load of fun.

The little house is the power drop for all the buildings, and it was wired into a breaker box "recently", which could have been up to 12 years ago from other recently accomplished things I've found information on. Then, the new powerlines were run, (they had originally crossed directly over the "machine shed " that the little house was expanded from), and a "new breaker box" installed. It is a 200 amp regulation box, nice. It's a match for the one I put in my garage on Lake Street. The only thing in it is a 100 amp breaker used to get the power to the "recently rewired" box. And the "recently rewired" box is a 60 amp box with breakers supplying the entire little house and all the out buildings. Clear as mud huh?

Here's the rub, I need 87 amps to run one of my welders, and the 3 phase inverter used to heat up the 1/2 inch copper pipe I had substituted for the buss fuses in it's breaker box, (the 50 amp fuses popped everytime I tried to start it) I haven't had any problems in the "unwired" garage at Lake Street, since I put the 200 amp box in it and hooked everything up in to the house a week after it's final inspection. In fact I'll have to look and see what breaker runs the garage, (oddly enough when I checked, it is a 100 amp breaker and so is the main breaker to the house! I was sure the house was 200 amp service, but it is 100 amp. I evidently never pulled more than one hundred amps , but it does explain chris commenting on the lights flickering when I'd weld for a while...) I never had an issue with it in over ten years, but I'm sure it's not up to standards for the City of Akron, in fact I once told a city inspector I had 3 phase in my garage and he said I couldn't possibly have , because I'm residential! So I didn't invite him over for anything, who needs another moron snooping around? I know what I have, even if others don't know the possibility exists.

Well the wiring around here isn't up to code standards of the Health Nazis in Akron, actually it now surpasses it, but I'm out here where you do the best you can, and "if it don't smoke, it's okie dokie!" I love it out here. I can take my time, and lay things out, and run them as they should be run, and "alternative energy sources" will be allowed for. Unlike scabing in an extra dryer plug, in my unwired garage, and hoping it isn't noticed. But it did allow me to run my welder/generator in the garage, and power my house and two neighbors houses, for 5 days after a small tornado (that never happened according to the weather service which was dancing around liability) tore down all the wires in our little corner of the world. It was expensive, I think it cost about $17.00 a day to keep the generator running, and the gas prices were a third of todays! I quit griping about electric prices for a while after that, of course I'm back to griping, but they are outrageous for what you get anymore particularly when they won't go solar (or any of it's forms, wind, water, or photoelectric) for generation options, just coal, coal, coal. Oh well, I am going to have options!

Meanwhile back at the ranch, we had a harvest of 17 round bales of hay. Got most of the fields mowed, that could be, now that there are trees in some of them. It doesn't make setting a deal easy, when there are so many exceptions. But that is one of my least concerns. I have buildings to maintain, and systems to invent and install, and all I have to do is get my supplies down here without destroying the cars doing it.

Had a recent great trip down, trailer handled like a dream. Still only go 55 when towing, that way I get to see lots of other cars from all angles as they zoom past me. Brought the air system from the Lake Street garage and all the electrics that were transferable, With the notable exception of the 3 phase inverter, as it is pretty heavy for this trip so I will get it at a later date.

The rest was the toys for the games.

Man, are we happy out here!

The Chores, Fresh Air, Green Acres is for ME.

ray...

The happy Nada Farmer, mostly just another nut in the country , but trying to keep things running as well as can be done without a clue.

Keep coming back , page thirteen follows......soon .
